CPCS recently completed a concise Freight Data Guide to help transportation agencies navigate existing and emerging freight data sources and to encourage collaboration and data sharing. The 24-page guide is available on the SHRP2 Capacity Website and provides step-by-step guidance on selecting the right data, a freight data "Cheat Sheet", summaries of commonly used data sets, freight data acquisition/sharing tips, and examples of recent freight data applications. The aim of the guide is to put into practice the lessons learned through the implementation phase of Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2) C20: Freight Demand Modeling and Data Improvement Strategic Plan. The work was sponsored by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The guide reflects the input of over 135 transportation professionals who participated in 10 regional freight data collaboration workshops during 2016-2017.
